Our History

For over 90 years, Tippet Richardson has been a family business devoted to moving Canadian families and businesses. Founded in 1927, with its primary goal to provide high quality residential and corporate moving services in Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), we have grown in both size and reputation to become one of Canada’s most respected moving companies.

The founding partners Basil Tippet, C.A Richardson and Russell Naylor commenced their operations using a rented warehouse in Toronto, Ontario and one van. The bulk of their business was to and from Ontario, Quebec, and the USA.

In 1944 the leadership of the company changed when Russell Naylor, who was the Operations Manager and minor shareholder since the company’s founding became Vice President of Operations and Walter Naylor who had joined the company in 1930 became the Vice President of Sales and Accounting. Russell Naylor became President when Mr. Tippet passed away in 1959. Under Russell Naylor’s leadership the company expanded adding new operations in Ontario.

After Russell passed away in 1976, his legacy was continued by his sons Peter & Bruce Naylor. As Peter took on the role of President, he saw value in expanding into business records, overseas moving and developed a special products division. All of which helped the company propel forward expanding into Alberta and British Columbia.

Today, Tippet Richardson is still owned by the Naylor family and operates offices in Toronto, Ottawa, Calgary and Vancouver. Our goal of providing the highest quality moving services hasn’t changed.

As part of our Green Initiatives and giving back to the community we have taken some steps.

Reduce/Re-Use/Recycle

Tippet Richardson across its offices and in everyday operations is

  • Reducing the use of non-recyclable packing material
  • Using packing paper and boxes that are 100% recyclable
  • Using two side printing for all documents
  • Recycling paper, cans, bottles, cardboard and toner cartridges
Green Energy

Since early 2007, Tippet Richardson has successfully installed solar panels on the roofs of some of our warehouses. This initiative reduces the carbon footprint generated by our company and reduces dependency on traditional energy sources.

Smiles Foundation

Helping those in need is Important. Tippet Richardson supports Toronto-based Smiles Foundation, which provides dental care and primary health education to underprivileged children in the Dominican Republic. We provide free warehousing, packing and loading services to all shipments for Smiles Foundation.

Tippet Richardson is a proud member of Move for Hunger. Our crew offer free packing of food items destined for food banks and charities under the Move for Hunger umbrella, and the office staff donates regularly to the cause.
